All It Takes is a Little Faith-FAF 2020

Hello Warriors! I'd like to share this story with you, but with a little backstory. I entered this piece in the AG Fine Arts Festival back in 2020, but unfortunately, the festival was cancelled. However, it did get evaluated and received an Excellent (the second highest score!). It was the first piece I entered, so I was very happy with how it turned out. As you can tell, it's a little bit rough. Enjoy!

All It Takes is a Little Faith

“Charlotte! Chloe! Time to get up and get ready for church!Their mother’s voice drifted up the stairs, waking the 10-year-old girls.

They groaned and groggily went downstairs, still in their pajamas. They were homeschooled, they went to church only to socialize.

“Mom,” Chloe started, holding her breath. “Can we not go to church today?”

Mom was surprised.“I thought you girls loved church.” she said.

Charlotte quickly explained, “We only go to be with our friends.”

“I see. Alright, this once I guess. Eat up.” she added, setting two steaming plates before the girls.

“If you’re not going, then we’re going on an adventure!” Mom exclaimed.

They ate their breakfast quickly, and went into the basement. Mom pulled off a white blanket to reveal a small machine, no bigger than a cupboard.

“I call it Timely Magic. Let’s go!” The girls all crawled inside, and saw that the machine was way more spacious than the outside looked.

Then it was dark.

“I shall put Daniel in charge of everything if he continues his superior work.” said a man sitting on a throne. He was wearing a purple robe, with lots of jewels, and on his head a crown.

“This is the story of Daniel and the lion’s den, right?” Chloe asked. Mom nodded.

They watched as two people exited the room using a door just out of sight of the King.

“Are those the leaders who got Daniel in trouble?” asked Charlotte. Mom nodded again.

The whole place went dark again, and when it became bright, they were still in the throne room. But there was a different man before the King.

“My  King,”  said a sinister looking man, bowing in front  of  the  King.  “I  saw  Daniel  praying  to  his  God  this  afternoon.  You  have  made  a  law  saying  everyone must  pray  only  to  you,  or  be  thrown  into  the  lion’s  den.”

“You  are  correct.  I  have  made  the  law,  and  cannot  change  it.”  The  King  said. Then  he  sighed.  “He  must  go  to  the  lions.”

Darkness  fell  again.

The  girls  found  themselves  in  a  deep,  dark  pit.  The  King  above  watched  his guards  throw  a  man  into  the  hole.  “You  serve  your  God  faithfully;  may  he  save  you.”  He  said  anxiously.

Lions  appeared,  growling  and  circling  Daniel.  He  kneeled  and  began  to  pray.  A bright  light  shone,  and  a  voice  said,  “Daniel,  you  have  pleased  the  Lord,  He  will  shut  the  mouths  of  these  lions.  You  shall  not  be  harmed.”

All  became  dark  again,  and  this  time  they  were  standing  by  the  hole.  The  King  was  peering  into  the  hole,  calling  Daniel’s  name.  His  guards  pulled  Daniel  out, and  the  King  asked,  “How  did  you  survive?”  Daniel  answered,  “My  God  protected  me  in  the  pit.”

It  became  dark  once  more,  then  they  again  saw  the  machine  in  front  of  them.

“That’s  it?  What  happened  next?  I  know  there’s  more,  but  I  don't  remember  what  happened.”  Chloe  said.

“King  Darius  sent  the  jealous  leaders  to  the  pit,  when  lions  devoured  them  instantly.  Darius  made  a  new  law  that  says  everyone  has  to  pray  to  Daniel’s God.  If  you’re  faithful,  God  will  take  you  out  of  hard  obstacles,  but  He  needs  you  to  trust  him.  He  loves  it  when  we  go  to  church  to  worship  Him.”  Mom  said.

“I’m  going  to  church  now!  I  want  to  thank  God  for  everything  He’s  ever  done!” Charlotte  said.

“I’m  going  to  make  a  list  of  my  favorite  verses.”  Chloe  said.

“Why  don’t  we  all  make  lists  when  we  get  back  from  church?”  Mom  suggested. “Yeah!”  The  girls  shouted.
