The Raven's Wrath

The Raven’s Wrath

By E. Bush

“You need to fear the Raven’s wrath,

Be careful not to cross his path!

His claws are sharp,

For eating his carp.

Yes, you must fear the Raven’s wrath!”

Says a hummingbird along the path.

The blue little bird hears all of it,

And it startles him into a fit.

“The Raven dives to catch his prey,

For him this is a good hunting day.

The Raven has found his meal.”

Says a small bird that is teal.

“The Raven is quick to anger,

And then you know that you’re in danger!

The Raven is a mean fellow,”

Says the bird that is yellow.

The little bird flies on his way,

Trying to take in every word they say.

“He will get you,

Little bird blue,

He scarcely leaves a feather!”

The birds all shout together.

The worried bluebird flies past the sun,

The sun says to undo what they’ve done;

“The Raven can be like your fear

But don’t you fret at all, my dear,

There are greater things waiting for us,

Through the power of my Lord, Jesus.”

“I want this Lord,” says the bird so blue.

The gentle sun laughs, “Of course you do!”

This was a simple piece that I wrote for the 2022 AG Fine Arts Festival, and it advanced to the National Festival. This has since been one of my favorite pieces that I have written.
