Heirloom-
That evening Angelina came by my apartment for our movie night. She practically broke my door down as she rushed past me. “Guess what!” she exclaimed.
“We’ve set a date! Albus and I have finally got everything ready!” She started jumping around the room while I just giggled.
“That’s great!” I replied. “I’m so happy for both of you. You’ll be so happy together. And I can finally meet your mystery man.” I had never met Albus, since he and Angelina met when she was away in San Fransisco.
“You’ll meet him next summer,” Angelina replied. “That’s when our wedding will be. He’ll move in with me sometime before the wedding. You know, I’ve always loved that brooch over there.” She was looking at a display case on the wall, where a beautiful amber brooch lay. “It’s so beautiful. I love coming here and seeing it. If you wanted to, you could sell it for almost ten thousand dollars, I’ve looked.”
“I know I could. But my great-aunt trusted it to me. I’ll treasure it forever.”
“But think of all the money you could make!”
“Money isn’t everything. Besides, I have a good job, I don’t need extra money.”
Angelina sighed and walked to the counter to start popping popcorn. “You’re missing out.”
“Oh,” I said, smacking my forehead. “I forgot to mention, I invited William over. He said he’d come, and possibly bring a friend.” Almost as if on cue, there was a knock on the door.
I opened the door and in came William, accompanied by the red-headed, bright-smiling Thomas. William held up the bags of candy as Thomas put some soda on the counter. “Thought we should have some sugar,” said William.
I thanked him and we all piled on my small couch to watch the movie. There wasn’t a ton of room so Thomas sat on the floor. Then William made a comment about the brooch.
“It was left to me by my late great-aunt,” I explained. The answer seemed to satisfy him and he turned his attention to the television, but I could’ve sworn I kept seeing Thomas glace at it.
