Epilogue-
The bluebirds in the sky
Will continue to fly,
The squirrels still collect their food
And from that we conclude
That time still passes
Like the ever-growing grasses.
As Angelina said, the time passed. I recovered and left the agency. William achieved ‘Best Agent of the Month’ award. I even got to accompany Will and another agent on a mission.
‘But did you get married?’ you might be asking. Well, during that mission, my life was in even more danger than before, so after completing that mission, I decided that being an agent wasn’t for me. ‘But did you ever get married?!’ you might be asking impatiently. Just shut up and let me tell the story, you’ll find out!
William and I dated for a while after the mission and he told me that he would leave his job if we got married because he reasoned that I would constantly be in danger, and I would worry that he might not come home. He said it wasn’t fair to me.
I knew that he had had his job for over ten years, so I didn’t think it was fair to him if he just up and left. I knew he loved his job. We talked and argued about it for a long time before coming up with the solution. It was heartbreaking, but we decided that it was too dangerous to get married.
But there was still a daring part of us that wanted to throw caution aside and be together, but we didn’t. We kept in touch for years. William wrote to me about his adventures when he could and I wrote back with very little news, but he told me it was a comfort to read and know I was safe.
Neither one of us got married. William didn’t because he thought it was dangerous; and he made it clear that if he did, he would marry me. I wouldn’t get married because I was still in love with William.
I guess you can’t call that a ‘happily ever after’, since most people get married at the end, but I suppose you could call it the middle of a ‘happily ever after’ and an ‘all’s well that ends well’ story. Maybe more of an ‘at least we’re alive’ story? No. “We both wished the other would change their mind’? Nope. How about:
Goodbye my dear friends,
This is how the story ends.
The bluebirds fill the skies
They in flight arise
The squirrels still collect their food
And from that we conclude
That time still passes
Like that tall ever-growing grasses.
My dear friends,
This is where our story ends.
* * *
And with that, I conclude the story! I hope that you enjoyed this story! Be on the lookout for more month-long (or half-a-month) stories!
