Bluebird-
I had been slowly getting better. It had been a week since I had been moved out of the hospital, and now I was moved to a hotel-like room to stay in until I was completely better. I had nothing to do but walk around the buildings nearby, almost like this place was a little town, but I didn’t walk all the time. I would occasionally wander around, part of me hoping to run into William, but I never did.
Angelina’s funeral was set after I was released from the hospital. Still no sign of William. No one that I talked to would tell me anything, so eventually, I gave up.
The day of Angelina’s funeral came, and as it was set outside, the beautiful weather seemed to mock us. It took place in the courtyard of the agency’s little graveyard. There was a beautiful fountain of water in the middle with all kinds of flowers, bushes, and trees around.
Many of Angelina’s friends came up to speak. It was comforting to hear their stories and adventures that made her the wonderful person she was. After the service, the agents slowly shuffled out, leaving me alone. I sat on the edge of the fountain, staring at the beautiful plants around me.
A young bluebird caught my eye. He was dancing in a nearby tree, singing a beautiful melody of chips and tweets. Bluebirds were Angelina’s favorite. I sat enticed by the little bird until I felt a splash of cold water on my back. I turned around and saw William, his hand dripping from the fountain, grinning.
I jumped up and almost made him fall into the fountain with a big bear hug. “You’re back!” I said happily.
He laughed. “Agent 1 told me that you’d been asking for me. And of course, I couldn’t leave you waiting.” He looked at me like he was trying to conceal how happy he was seeing me again.
“Oh Will, I'm so sorry for everything that I said. I don’t hate you, and I know that none of this was your fault. I could never hate you, I promise”
He laughed and said, “I know, but it’s a comfort to hear you say it. I’m sorry that I went away, but I had to deliver a letter to Angelina’s fiance, and then I got roped into another mission. Thankfully, it was resolved quickly. Now I’m back.”
“I’m glad. I’ve felt awful since I said those things to you, I didn’t mean them,” I said.
“And I didn’t mean the rude things about Angelina. But I do have one more thing that I need to tell you,” He said, breaking away from our hug and looking nervous.
“What is it?” His suddenly intense gaze made my breath hitch.
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
Then he leaned in and kissed me.
