No Family

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

 Prompt: Family

On Christmas Eve, Thomas felt very angry. He had just stormed away from a church service, though no one had noticed. Why? Well, he was asking himself the same thing. He thought it was because the music was too loud, or the halls of the church overly decorated, though it might have been because of the uncomfortable seats.

However, he wasn’t fooling himself. He knew perfectly well that what really upset him were the families present. The large families, that took up one or two pews, and the smaller families containing a few people. Even the people who weren’t in the family, but we’re very close friends, upset him very much.

Thomas hadn’t a family to go home to, only a pile of bills and a to-do list a mile long. He continued to walk down the street, away from the church. As he did, he passed restaurants and stores, all containing at least one happy family celebrating Christmas. Thomas was still miserable as he walked home.
